Finally, something i've done recently. There's still some old stuff I did not share yet, but I think it's time to show more work in progress and this kind of fast sketches.
The details you see in here (pores and fur on hat) are just surface noise previewed over the mesh... if I would project it to the mesh itself it wouldn't work very well, simply because I didn't retopologize and the mesh is a complete mess. That's why I call it a fast sketch. I just wasn't very happy with how clean the face looked, but didn't want to develop it, or should I say, waste more time on it, so this is a good solution for a fast skin look.
Oh, I know the hat shape is kind of stupid... I was using a screenshot from some movie as inspiration for the head block in shapes, and since the guy was wearing a hat I decided to make one too, but I don't know what happened... it turned out like this.

Saramago (sort of)
Likeness portraits are always hard for me, because every reference image I use makes the person I'm portraying look different.
Taking that into account... this was supposed to be José Saramago. I've made it by the time of his death, and, since it doesn't look very much like him I intended to develop it a bit more. The thing is, I actualy really like it the way it is... so I decided to leave it like that.

EVE Contest Entry
Hi. Today i'm posting something I made for a contest on deviantArt called:
As you might have noticed by the title, the idea of the contest was to create a starship that could be part of the EVE Online universe. If you're wondering what that is...
"EVE is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMORPG) that takes place approximately 20.000 years after our times in a galaxy on the far end of the universe."
To learn more about it, check this LINK.
Now, this was something I have never tried before. Even though I always loved concept art, I can now appreciate it even more, because its way harder then I thought.
The game has five main factions, I believe, and each of them has it's unique characteristics and aesthetics. Looking at my submission, I would say it doesn't fit any of the factions, especialy on the beauty render, with that white (?) color. I was aiming for the Amarr or maybe the Gallente races. Not very noticeable, I know.
This isn't the render as I submitted for the contest. I have been tweaking it just before posting this. Here's the ORIGINAL.
Obviously, I did not win. But overall, this was a very nice experience where I learned a lot. It was an opportunity to try something different, something I want to continue exploring and develop from now on.
HERE are the winners. In my opinion, there were better ships, but after all the trouble with the judges's (not so great) 15 choices, it ended up being chosen 1st Prize winner the one that wasn't on that list (but was the favourite of the community). It's a very good ship that will now be part of the game.
I'll leave you with the orthos and concepts i've made. My final submission didn't have a concept (probably the reason why it sucks lol), I was designing it on the run. Some of the other concepts I started on 3d, but don't have any image and I don't feel like making it now.

The Knowledge Key
Long time no post... Today i'm back with something a bit different, for a change.
Here's an old illustration I revisited the other day. It was suposed to be a book cover about knowledge and the learning process. It was something like: "Key to a proper education".
Well, since it ended up not being used I decided to make some changes to the original illustration, mostly in the background area. Also changed the overall ambience of the image, it was a bit cartoonish in the first version.

W.I.P. girl head
This last image was rendered in 3ds max (edited in photoshop).
Need to finish it's texture. maybe i'll use it to learn to play with Z4's Lightbox.
By the way... this is old work. And the material used in the textured versions is the Realistic Skin (quad shader) from This Material Pack by KrakenCMT. It's the closest to SSS we could get inside Zbrush before Z4, so thanks to Christopher Tackett for this and all the other great materials he has kindly shared with the zbrush community.

Head Sketch
Zbrush 4.0 has finally been released!!! I haven't tried it yet but am completely blown away by beta tester's images and the new features videos. These are great times to be a digital artist or enthusiast.
I still have a few "old" works to post, but hopefully there will be some fresh Zbrush 4 experiments from me.
About this one... I liked his earlier stage expression best, but to be honest, I lost interest some time after retopologize him (as I usually do), so he ended up being one more bald, serious, almost simetrical contemplating old man.
